General Description

UNINOVA is an institute devoted to the development and application of new technologies. It is organized in centers of excellence and will participate in the project via Centro de Excelência de Microelectrónica e Optoelectrónica e Processos (CEMOP) CEMOP, founded in 1989, has the main activities focused on the development of processes and production techniques related to micro/nanoelectronics and optoelectronics fields. A particular area of expertise of CEMOP deals with the thin films technologies and the development of advanced materials such as transparent conductors, thermoelectric and electrochromic materials and devices. The Center (CEMOP) is specially equipped for Research & Development, service providing and training activities in five main areas: 1.microelectronic and optoelectronic devices conception/production technologies and processes; 2. tribologic and optic coatings; 3. system project and conception; 4. material and device characterization; 5. device simulation/modeling.

Dr. Andriy Lyubchyk is project leader has a PhD in Chemical Engineering, specialized in the fields of alternative energy and advanced materials research. Prof. Rodrigo Ferrão Paiva Martins is Head of Materials Science Department – FCT/UNL, Director of Centre of Excellence in Micro and Optoelectronic Processes Institute of New technologies, CEMOP/UNINOVA, Immediate Past President of the European Materials Research Society, President of E-MRS Senate. His fields of expertize are nanomaterials, nanotechnology and paperelctronics. Hugo Águas is Assistant Professor at the DCM-UNL and researcher at UNINOVA-CENIMAT. He received his PhD in 2005. His current research interests are in the field of processing silicon based photovoltaic materials and devices; plasmonic materials and microfluidics. He has published 122 papers in ISI/SCI Scientific Journals, from which was the corresponding author in 32 of them. The number of citation times registered in the WoK is 1325, and has am h-index of 17.

NOVA ID will participate in the project via Rede de Química e Tecnologia (REQUIMTE). Associated Laboratory on Green Chemistry REQUIMTE – Rede de Química e Tecnologia – is the largest Portuguese Chemistry and Technology Network, recognized as a Research Center of Excellence since 2001, supported by the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology, with the status of an Associate State Laboratory. It comprises several research centers from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) and Universidade do Porto, REQUIMTE plays a pivotal role in the Portuguese academic/ scientific system in all areas related with Sustainable Chemistry.

Dr. Svitlana Lyubchyk, Team Leader, PhD (Chem Eng), Leading Researcher of REQUIMTE, FFCT/UNL. Research work of Dr. Lyubchyk is diverse and multi-disciplinary, with core areas in Green chemistry, carbon nanomaterials, life sciences and environmental engineering. The main R&D team contribution will be (1) design of the advanced adsorbents (carbon nanomaterials-based composites) and (2) optimization of the conditions of their usage as medical adsorbents and antimicrobial agents. The main expertise of the team relevant to this project is carbon surface chemistry, synthesis and characterization of nanoporous carbon materials and ceramic based composites.

General Description

C2MA is a reserch centre on advanced materials which belongs, together with its host institution Ecole des Mines d’Alès (ENSTIMA), to the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), the leading group of French engineering and business schools. C2MA is organized in 3 research teams: Advanced Polymer Materials, Materials and Structures for Civil Engineering, Materials and their Environments as Interactive Systems. The research activities of C2MA are mainly concerned with conceptualization, development and study of innovative nano- and microcomposite materials based on mineral or (and) polymer matrix, as well as with study of the peculiarities of interactions between materials and their close environments. Some angular numbers which objectively characterize C2MA in the current period of time (2013 – 2014) are the following: permanent staff – 76-77 persons major publications– 96; major communications – 58; contractual turnover – 2.6 M€.

Prof. José-Marie Lopez-Cuesta, Head of the Centre of Materials (C2MA), skilled in development and investigation of composite materials, in flame retardant mineral-polymer compositions and in electrochemistry, will be responsible for the overall strategy of the project’s carrying out. Prof. Valérie Desauziers, team “Materials and their Environments as Interactive Systems, MEIS” (team leader), skilled in analytical monitoring of environmental media, will be responsible for analytical support of the current study. She will also participate in project’s administration. Research Prof. Alexei Evstratov, team MEIS, skilled in surface chemistry, surface phenomena (adsorption, heterogeneous catalysis, etc.) and in elaboration and characterization of composites materials, will be responsible both for the scientific support and follow-up of the project under consideration and for its current administrative monitoring. Having put forward the concept of oxide water supplied electric charge generators, he will be called to insure the pertinence of C2MA’s scientific and technical contributions in the achievement of the project’s research objectives.

Makarova (awarded by the fellowships from Alexander von Humboldt foundation (Germany) and “Outstanding Women in Engineering Sciences” (Sweden) is an expert nanophysics and nanotechnology; has a > 20 years experience in nanocarbon research. She works with magnetism in otherwise nonmagnetic materials; this topic has become especially hot after the discovery of graphene because theory predicts a whole spectrum of magnetic phenomena in graphene I. Zakharchuk has a broad and long experience with supervising master students; expert in electrical and magnetic measurements. P. Geydt is very experienced in the mentoring students; his main expertise lies in special types of scanning probe microscopy/spectroscopy: electrostatic, Kelvin, electromechanical.

DIPE was founded in 1965 and is a leader in high pressure physics and techniques in Ukraine. The Institute carries out fundamental and applied investigations in nanophysics and electronics, physics and technology of advanced structural and functional materials, physics of crystals in extremal conditions. The main directions of investigations are physics of a solid under extreme conditions and physics and technology of prospective structural and functional materials. The institute is a base for nanophysics faculty of National university. The DIPE is combined from scientific and industry facilities. In last year’s institute is active in area nanophysics and electronics, physics and technology of advanced structural and functional materials, physics of crystals in extreme condition. Since (2014) Institute had changed its official address and allocation due to the political situation in Ukraine and moved from Donetsk city to Kiev city-capital of the Ukraine.

Prof. Tetyana Konstantinova (Dr.Sci. phys & math) is head of Material science department DIPE, expert in nanomaterials physics and nanotechnology including obtaining, investigation and application of oxide nanoparticles and studying of mesoscopic phenomena in nanosystems. Aleksandr Doroshkevich work in nanoelectronics development of electronic devices, sensors, ionistors, capacitors. Igor Danilenko is specialist in area of Physics and chemistry of nanomaterials including synthesis of different oxide nanoparticles and ceramic materials based on nanopowders. Oxana Gorban is expert in physical chemistry including investigations amorphous and crystal nanoparticle systems by BET analysis, IR, EPR spectroscopy and others, studying surface state of nanoparticles and obtaining composite nanosystems. Artem Shylo has a broad and long experience in creation of sensors and nanoinoic storage devises based on nanoparticles, as well as measurements of I-V and EIS characteristics.

SOLENE-R is a French SME founded in 2011. The company has the French status of young innovative company (JEI: Jeune Enterprise Innovante). SOLENE-R activity is thermal engineering in renewable energy whose specialty is the development and sale of renewable cooling solutions thanks to Adsorption/Desorption cycles. Some applications are patented in the fields of water treatment and agriculture. The company will bring its knowledge in Adsorption/Desorption thermal application in order to analyze synergy possibilities. Thank to engineering skills, SOLENE-R will bring also a “system approach” for the device design allowing the integration of every components towards functional analysis and studies of technology application fields. An engineer will be hired full time to perform the tasks entrusted to SOLENE-R.

Jacques Frisonroche, engineer in the areas of energy and water treatment. He has worked 6 years in Veolia company in water treatment plant design with a specialisation in renewable energy integration. With SOLENE-R, he has developed solution of renewable cooling production thanks to adsorption process adapted to specific applications (energy optimisation of sludge drying, air blower energy optimisation). Thanks to his skill of specific installation design, he will bring his “system approach” thanks to method and tools (functional analysis).
